This chain was made for a school project at Budai Rajziskola (Budapest, Hungary ). The task was to design a new type of chain. The idea behind my design was to define the very meaning of what a chain is, of what makes a chain a chain. During the design process I found that a chain always has to contain at least 3 links, that is the governing idea behind this solution.

Another important aspect is in the way the links are connected. For me the idea of the rings and the spheres first came when I played with the thought of how a sphere could rotate on an open ball bearing. I found this to be a very smooth interraction and decided to stick with it. The only thing I changed was in the use of half a sphere, to reduce weight, and to achieve a more appealing look.

Chain opens and closes using a thredded solution, therefor it is convinient to screw the half-sphere on and off. The reason I addopted this methodology is that when the bracelet is closed, all three links look the same.
